1996 AIA North Alabama Design Awards - Honor Award Recipient

The City of Florence commissioned LED Architecture in 1992 to design a conference center on a 12-acre site overlooking the Tennessee River and Wilson Dam. Many design elements of the conference center are abstractions of architectural details from Wilson Dam because of the site’s close proximity to the river and the dam. The color of the building’s exterior resembles the aged concrete on the dam, while the blue, pyramidal roofs emulate the river in the building’s background. The interior of the conference center features an 11,600-square-foot central exhibition space that can be subdivided. A corridor wraps around the exhibition space that contains a full-service kitchen, other supporting spaces, and two additional 3,000-square-foot rooms that flank each end of the central space.
